Exotic Hibiscus: Luminous Jewels for your Patios & Porches

Our guest speaker Gail Woods will provide an introduction on tropical hibiscus: where to purchase them, how to care for them, and how to propagate them with cuttings and hybridization. She will also bring blooming plants that day and provide handouts with resource materials.

Gail became fascinated by tropical hibiscus while living on the Hawaiian island of Kauai during the pandemic and working at the national tropical botanical gardens there. Since then, she has become a collector of tropical hibiscus and owns over a thousand of them. She has become an expert in how to keep the plants healthy and blooming and how to propagate them using scions to root and graft and hybridizing to create seeds. She is active in the American Hibiscus Society and has won awards for her blooms in regional shows.
